Concerns have been raised by tenants across Karnataka regarding their eligibility for the state government's 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme, which promises up to 200 units of free electricity monthly. Many tenants were unsure if the benefit would apply to them, given that electricity meters are often registered in the landlord's name.\n\nAddressing these queries, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar clarified the conditions for tenants to receive free electricity. He stated that tenants can indeed avail the 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme, provided the electricity meter connection is transferred to their name. Alternatively, they must register their rental agreement with the relevant authorities and ensure that their Aadhaar card is linked to the electricity connection at their rented premises. This measure aims to prevent misuse and ensure that the subsidy reaches the intended beneficiaries. The government is expected to release detailed guidelines on the registration process for tenants soon.
